The Urology Department, located in Zone U, is staffed by 6 Consultants, an Associate Specialist, a Specialist Registrar, 3 junior medical staff, Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Nurse practitioner.
The Department at the L&D is part of the Cambridge specialist registrar training programme, with links to University College London and Guy’s hospitals.
A full complement of services is provided, both diagnostic and therapeutic. Diagnostic investigations include urodynamic, video urodynamic and Transrectal USS and prostate biopsies.
Emphasis has been placed on minimally invasive surgery, especially laparoscopic cancer surgery and laser stone surgery.
An extremely well run MDT meeting runs on a weekly basis to discuss specific patient cases.
Referrals are accepted via E-RS.
Procedures undertaken in our Unit include the following:
Clinic name: Urology One Stop and Follow Up Appointments
Clinic Type: Adult
First attendances ( Urology One Stop) – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday PM
Follow Up Appointments – Monday to Friday AM
Diagnostic Tests – Monday AM, Wednesday AM, Friday AM
To families of all our patients, we wanted to give a reminder that sadly, at both Bedford and the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, we are still unable to allow any visitors on site, unless there are exceptional circumstances, for example in maternity or children’s departments, or for those patients who are receiving palliative treatment at the end of their lives, on a case-by-case basis.
At both our hospitals changes are being made to support services, and we would now ask that you contact the wards using the direct lines found here for Bedford and here for Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.
