Blood Tests (Phlebotomy)
Important Patient Information:
All Adult Outpatients Blood Tests at Caudwell Centre (South Wing) have been moved to Gilbert Hitchcock House (North Wing). Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. Please call 01234 355122, extension 3402 for any enquiries.
The paediatirc phlebotomy service is currently operating a limited service for urgent blood tests only. The drop in service is no longer in operation. Should your child require an urgent blood sample please call the following number for advice on whether your test can be carried out: 01234 355122 Ex: 6376
If your GP has asked for you to get a blood test, the majority of tests can be done on a walk in basis at Gilbert Hitchcock House on Kimbolton Road (MK40 2AW).
If you have been asked to have a glucose tolerance test (GTT) this is by appointment only. Please ring 01234 792160 to make an appointment.
Children under sixteen need to attend the children and teenager’s outpatient unit. Please call to make an appointment on 01234 355122 and ask for Paediatric Phlebotomy Service through the operator.
If you have been told or it is marked on your blood test card that your blood test requires you to fast, then you must not eat or drink anything apart from water for a minimum of 10 hours, otherwise your blood test cannot be undertaken.

If you have a urine sample, please take this to the phlebotomy department at South Wing. The urine sample needs to be labelled fully with name, date of birth, NHS or hospital number and the time and date of the sample. If you have a stool sample, please take this to the microbiology department.

It is very important you find out where your blood test is before going to the appointment. Blood tests may be at your GP, at the L&D itself, on the first floor of Arndale House or at Dunstable Health Centre.
