Falls Service

Bedford Hospital

Falls can have a significant impact on a person’s daily life, physical and mental wellbeing. We aim to find out why individuals are falling, treat any underlying problems, increase strength, balance and confidence and reduce the risk of falling in the future.

The service comprises of

  • Specialist senior Physiotherapists
  • Specialist senior Occupational Therapist
  • Falls assistant practitioners
  • Falls therapy assistants
  • Access to a Consultant Geriatrician who meets weekly with the therapists for a falls Multi professionals meeting.

The falls service covers North and Mid Beds and clinics are held at the outpatient department at Gilbert Hitchcock House.

Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm.

What we provide

  • Mobility and walking aids
  • Strength
  • Balance
  • Co-ordination
  • Foot condition and footwear
  • Vestibular assessments if required
  • Transfer methods
  • Home environment assessments
  • Aids and adaptations
  • Home hazard assessment

We also provide

  • High level falls group exercise classes
  • Medium level community falls group exercise classes
  • Lower level falls group exercise classes
  • Bespoke home exercise programmes for housebound patients who live in the Beds Borough area

Where patients will be seen will depend on their needs and locality.

Accessing the service

Patients can be referred by health professionals or GPs. You may also self-refer using the self-referral form and the details below.
