Paediatric Psychology

The Paediatric Psychology Team works alongside children and young people who have been diagnosed with a physical health condition and attend either Bedford Hospital or Luton and Dunstable Hospital. We offer support to children and young people, their families and health professionals.

Everyone experiences tough times in their life. Living with a medical condition or physical symptoms can sometimes bring extra stress with it, both for the child or young person experiencing them, and for their family and carers who support them.

The role of the psychologist is to listen to everyone’s concerns and help children and their families cope with difficulties that can come from having a medical condition or medical investigations and receiving treatment. They will try to understand each family’s individual situation and support them to make positive changes. The focus is on building resilience and developing new strategies and coping skills.
