“Emily was on shift when we turned up. she made me feel so comfortable and calm the second she spoke to me. When finding out I was only 2cm, I had a little cry and she hugged me straight away and told me not to be disheartened and how amazing I was doing. Emily explained to me what was happening to my body and calmed me down. She took me to a bed straightaway, I had gone to 3cm and was made comfortable by Emily. She stayed past her shift to make sure that I was ok and was as pain free as possible.

“After a long 12 hours in Triage with no pain relief I saw Emily’s face I was so happy. She came straight in to see me and made sure that I was seen to and given pain relief. Emily had to go into delivery suite but she made sure that I was well looked after before doing so. She made me feel so important and reassured me as a first time mum.

“Marie took over in delivery suite and she was amazing. Emily came to see me once I had given birth and was so lovely and made me feel so proud of myself. She went out of her way in every way possible from the moment she saw me on the Wednesday night to the second she left the Friday morning.

Unexpected closure of lifts in Beeden House and reduced lift capacity in the Main Block, Bedford Hospital

Beeden House

We have had to make the difficult decision to close both lifts in Beeden House after finding an unexpected fault during routine maintenance.

This means that there will be disruption to services and appointments on the upper floors of Beeden House.

We are currently contacting patients to find the best individual solution for them, minimise disruption and ensure they continue to receive the care they need. At this point you do not need to contact us, we will contact all affected patients.

The decision to close the lifts was hard, but we felt it was the safest decision to best protect our patients and staff.

Reduced lift capacity in the Main Block

Please be aware our lifts in the Main Block currently have reduced capacity. In order to maintain lift functions and minimise traffic in the remaining lifts, we will be prioritising high priority movements.

Staff, patients and visitors can access the main block lifts if required, but may be asked to wait at main reception while other priority movements are made. A minimum of 4 people will be required before the lift departs. Security staff operating the lifts will be mindful that not all disabilities are visible and make appropriate accommodations for non-ambulant staff and visitors.

We apologise for the inconvenience the closure of lifts and reduced lift capacity will cause.
