Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

  1. Can I have an appointment with the Consultant?
    Answer: You need a ‘referral’ from your GP to be seen by a Consultant.
  2. What are the opening times of the Fertility Centre?
    Answer: We currently open between 08.30 and 17.00 Mon-Fri.
  3. Can you tell me my test results?
    Answer: You will need to get test results from your own GP or the Consultant who requested the test at your next scheduled appointment.
  4. I need to change my appointment as I am unable to make the date and/or time.
    Answer: You need to telephone: 01582 718083 to change any appointments.
  5. Does my partner need to come along to the consultation?
    Answer: Yes, as fertility affects both partners, we like to see you both together.
  6. My partner cannot attend the consultation due to work commitments?
    Answer: We understand that you may not both be able to attend each consultation, but would like you both to attend together as often as possible. Some tests will not be requested i.e.. semen, if the male does not attend.
  7. What can I expect at my first consultation?
    Answer: We will need both partners medical history and baseline tests may be requested.
  8. My GP/Consultant has asked me to do a semen sample, how do I book this?
    Answer: Your GP will have requested the analysis electronically (ICE). You should receive an appointment within 10 days. if you do not receive this, please telephone 01582 497547 and let them know you are still waiting.
  9. What happens when I arrive to hand my sample in?
    Answer: The receptionist will ask you if you have labelled your sample pot and check your request form before you leave. This will not take very long and then you can go. If you feel very anxious about this, please ask to see the scientist who will meet you and take your sample from you away from reception.
  10. How long will I have to wait for my semen analysis results?
    Answer: The referring GP or consultant will get a copy of the report in 7 days’ time. We cannot give result out over the phone under any circumstances.
  11. What if I have problems producing a sample or I have any questions?
    Answer: The Fertility Scientist will be available most days to help answer any questions and make the process as smooth as possible. Potential problems can always be talked through and possible solutions discussed, so please try not to be embarrassed and do not hesitate to contact us on 01582 497477.
