Annual Members’ Meeting 30 September 2020

Due to Government restrictions associated with COVID-19, our first Annual Members’ Meeting as Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was held online. The Agenda and Annual Report are published below.

Simon Linnett, Chair, at the virtual AMMAfter what has been an extremely busy and challenging time for the Trust, David CEO spoke about some of the many highlights including: The outstanding effort from all our staff during COVID-19; successfully merging two Trusts; Development of the Bedfordshire Care Alliance and wider Integrated Care System (ICS); Redevelopment plans progressing on both sites and becoming a smoke-free Trust.

Simon Linnett, Chair, welcomed the new Executive Team as well as the newly-appointed Governors. We said goodbye and thank you to Roger Turner, Lead Governor, after six years in the role and to Judi Kingham, Deputy Lead Governor, after three years.

Impact on Council of Governors Election in 2020 due to COVID and the decisions taken!

The Constitutional Working Group discussed options and proposals on how to approach the governor elections for vacancies that arises in September 2020 and how this would impact on those governors whose terms end in September 2020. The Constitutional Working Group submitted the proposals to delay the election in 2020 by a year in line with the guidance from NHSE/I and to keep the current governors whose terms of office ends in September 2020 in a nonvoting capacity to present and participate until September 2021. This was approved by the Council of Governors.


Council of Governors Election 2020 – Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust gives notice that it will hold elections to the Council of Governors of the Trust to be known as
Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust when Bedford Hospital NHS Trust and Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust come together as a single organisation. Elections are held for the following number of governors in the following Public and Staff Constituencies:

The Medical Lecture on – Orthopaedic treatment for adults and children – Your knees, hips and spine! was held Wednesday, 9 October 2019 

Orthopaedic team diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions of the musculoskeletal system. This includes bones, joints and their associated structures that enable movement – ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves.

Here at the L&D we provide a comprehensive service dealing with all acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems. We also provide daily Fracture and Elective outpatient clinics in our recently, purpose built Orthopaedic Hub based on Dunstable Road. Our consultant-led service is renowned for its innovative approach and pioneering surgery.

The lecture was well attended there were approximately 200 public members and patients who benefited. The lecture was presented by:

This took place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on 9 October 2019, at Central Bedfordshire College, Dunstable (Main Campus), LU5 4HG. There was time for questions following the presentation and the opportunity for informal discussions with our L&D Governors, from 5.30pm.

L&D Public/Staff Governor Election 2019 – The process commenced on 11th June 

The Trust gives notice that it will hold Council of Governors Election 2019 of the Luton and Dunstable NHS Foundation Trust. Nomination closed on Tuesday 2 July 2019 at 5pm. The ballot papers were issued to the Trust Members in the eligible constituencies 19 July. The poll closed at 5pm on Thursday 8th August 2019.

Medical Lecture on Respiratory Care, Friday 12 October 2018, 5.30pm for 6pm start!
Time: 6.00pm – 7.30pm, Friday 12 October 2018
Venue: Luton Sixth Form College, Bradgers Hill Road, Luton, LU2 7EW.

The Respiratory Department at L&D Hospital offers a full inpatient and outpatient medical service, delivered by a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) which treats adults with conditions affecting the respiratory tract, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, respiratory infections and bronchiectasis, tuberculosis (TB), interstitial lung disease and sarcoidosis, pleural disease and sleep disorder. Diagnostic facilities are also provided for the majority of respiratory conditions.

The lecture was well attended there were approximately 120 members and patients who benefited. The lecture was presented by Consultants Dr Pillai and Dr James Ramsay, the Clinical Nurse Specialists Farida Parkar, Lizan Drummond and Mike McMahon and Chest Physiotherapist Helen Owen.

Medical Lecture on Dementia Care
Time: 17.30 – 19.30, Wednesday 25th April 2018
Venue: Luton Sixth Form College, Bradgers Hill Road, Luton, LU2 7EW

More than 845,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with dementia and it is reported that 25% of all hospital beds are occupied by a patient with a type of dementia. At the L&D the dementia team is committed to supporting people with dementia and their carers, to enable them to live well with dementia.

The lecture was well attended there were approximately 180 members, patients and carers who benefited. The lecture was presented by Dr Johan Schoeman, Dr Sen Kallumpuram, Dr Jeannette Fuller, Clare Warren and Yvonne Weldon.
