Public Medical Lecture: Liver Disease, May 2025

Hall filled with audience listening to a presentation on 'Blood borne virus opt out testing in ED'On Tuesday 20 May 2025 ~170 people attended our latest Medical Lecture to learn more about Liver Disease, its variations and causes, and recovery pathways.

We hope that everyone had an informative evening, learned what our service provides for our community and the advice about liver disease, including symptoms, causes, management and treatments. Presentations covered a variety of elements; Fatty liver disease (diagnosis and management), Alcohol related liver disease, Viral hepatitis and the Opt-out blood borne virus screening now available in our Emergency Departments.

Hosted by Trust Chair Richard Sumray, we heard from Dr Sophie Sinclair (Consultant Gastroenterologist), Mr Wayne Pavey (Drug and Alcohol Liaison Practitioner, East London NHS Foundation Trust), Mrs Anna Lipinska (Community P2R Specialist Nurse, East London NHS Foundation Trust), Mr Chris Aherne (People Participation Lead), Dr Jay Patel (Consultant Hepatologist) and Dr Sambit Sen (Consultant Hepatologist).

After sharing, the group engaged in a Q&A discussion with the attendees.
