Chloe Badder-Walster
Ward 10 Sister – L&D – March 2025 Honouree
“Chloe always has a vision that every patient should have a positive experience while admitted to our ward. I am continually impressed by her compassion, dedication, and empathy towards patients and their family members. However, what she did during a long day shift in March 2025 was truly outstanding.
“We had a very young lady admitted to the HDU sector who rapidly deteriorated, and her anxiety exacerbated the situation. The nursing staff initiated a MET call, and while the medical team attended to the patient, Chloe sat beside her, holding her hand and offering constant reassurance to ensure she felt safe and supported. Shortly after, Chloe contacted the patient’s next of kin—her mother—and asked if she could come immediately, then quickly returned to continue supporting the patient.
“Once the patient’s parents arrived, Chloe discreetly took them aside to explain the situation and provide an update on their daughter’s condition. When the medical team decided the patient needed to be urgently transferred to theatre for an emergency procedure, the parents became understandably confused and anxious because they were informed they couldn’t accompany their daughter.
“What Chloe did next genuinely highlighted the true essence of nursing. She invited the parents into our relatives’ room, offered them refreshments and snacks, and every half-hour she personally went downstairs to theatre to obtain updates, consistently communicating these back to the anxious parents. Despite the ward being extremely busy that shift, Chloe continued caring for this family until the patient was safely transferred to ITU and the medical team communicated the ongoing treatment plan.
“On that day, Chloe demonstrated how significantly a nurse’s compassion and commitment can impact people’s lives, greatly enhancing the quality of care we provide. I feel incredibly grateful to have Chloe on our team. Her compassion and dedication inspire us all and positively influence the entire team.”
