About our Paediatric Physiotherapy service

The Paediatric (Children’s) Physiotherapy team are a group of specialist physiotherapists providing assessment and treatment to children and young people aged 0-19 years. There is an inpatient team, an outpatient team and a community team who cover the Luton and Central Bedfordshire areas.

All physiotherapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

The inpatient team treat children on the Woodlands Wards and NICU at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital as well as providing outpatient services for Children and Young People post operatively, for respiratory and NICU follow up. We also have an Occupational Therapist working within this team assessing equipment needs for inpatients and to facilitate discharge from hospital as well.

The outpatient team treat children aged 0-14 years old referred via any local health care professional.

The community team treat Children and Young Adults with complex or long-standing health needs when out of hospital.

The physiotherapists work with children and families to maximise independence and achieve the best physical function. The physiotherapists have expert knowledge in movement, development and conditions that are likely to affect a baby, growing child and adolescent.

We aim for physiotherapy to be fun, family-focused and function-driven working towards individualised patient’s goals to improve physical abilities.
