The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (L&D) is proud to have a Roald Dahl Nurse on our team.
Elizabeth Joshua-John, has won a prestigious Zenith Global Health Award at a glittering event which is known in the industry as the ‘Oscars for healthcare professionals’! Elizabeth, a Roald Dahl Paediatric Haematology Nurse Specialist based at the L&D was presented the Nursing and Midwifery award on Saturday 5th October at the ceremony which recognises, showcases and celebrates healthcare professionals who have excelled in their area of speciality through management, patient care, education, research and innovation.
Judges said: “After carefully reading through the candidates’ supporting statements, the clear winner is Elizabeth Joshua- John. Why, because she is not only very diverse with her nurse expertise but very patient oriented with her care plan. She offers support to families and trains nurses. She is very robust and enjoys her job.”
Sophie Dziwinski, Head of Programmes, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity said: “We are extremely proud that Elizabeth, who has been a Roald Dahl Nurse for two years, has won this prestigious award. This is a fitting tribute to the hard work she does; she is a dedicated and caring nurse who goes above and beyond for her patients as well as in the work she does for our charity to help seriously ill children lead a marvellous life.”
Elizabeth said: “I am so thankful to each and everyone at Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity for providing me these amazing opportunities. I am so proud to be a Roald Dahl nurse at the L&D!”

To families of all our patients, we wanted to give a reminder that sadly, at both Bedford and the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, we are still unable to allow any visitors on site, unless there are exceptional circumstances, for example in maternity or children’s departments, or for those patients who are receiving palliative treatment at the end of their lives, on a case-by-case basis.
At Bedford changes are being made to support services and we would now ask that, from Saturday 6 June 2020, you contact the wards using the direct lines found here.
For the Luton & Dunstable, we are offering a dedicated Next of Kin helpline for family members who want to check up on their loved ones – please nominate one family member to call 01582 718884 between 8am and 6pm.
