Relocation of Bariatric and Rheumatology Services at the L&D

Date: 15/04/2021 | Category: Internal Luton, Redevelopment

From Monday 19 April, Bariatric (Obesity) and adult Rheumatology services at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (L&D), part of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, are relocating to a new outpatient centre on Dunstable Road.

This is an exciting step for the Trust, as the additional outpatient facilities will support our services to continue providing specialist care in the best environment.

The new outpatient centre, Zone T, will be based a few minutes away from the main hospital site.

Debbie Musendeki, Clinical Lead for Bariatrics, said: “The Obesity Research Centre are thrilled to announce the move to brand new premises that has been custom made to meet the needs of our patients.

“There is no doubt that our new facilities will ensure we continue delivery of excellent care, as well as affording us opportunities of expansion to offer the best patient experience”.

Dr Daniel Fishman, Clinical Director for Rheumatology, said: “We are all looking forward to a new chapter in the history of our department, with the move to a new outpatient centre. Having all our services together, in a modern, purpose-built clinic space will enable us to further develop our clinical provision and enhance the service we provide to our patients.”

The existing space used on the hospital site for these services will be redeveloped as part of the main redevelopment programme – allowing the creation of an Acute Services Block and Ward Block, to provide improved Maternity, NICU, Theatres and Critical Care facilities.

Zone T is located at the M1 Junction 11 roundabout, behind the petrol station, adjacent to Travelodge. If using a sat nav, please use the postcode LU4 8RQ.

Car parking is accessible off of Halfway Avenue, and a lift is available to take you to the outpatient centre. The centre is accessible via Belper Road if arriving by foot, or being dropped off.

If patients have any questions prior to their appointment, they should contact the telephone number on their letter.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, patients are required to wear face masks when attending and will have their temperature checked upon arrival.
