Despite the easing of lockdown procedures across the country, we are still not allowing visitors to adult patients in our hospital to prevent the spread of infection.
This will help us to minimise the number of people in the hospital and reduce the risk of spreading infection to protect our patients and staff. There may be some other exceptions to this on compassionate grounds which we will discuss with you on an individual basis.
Changes are being made to support services and we would now ask that, from Saturday 6 June 2020, you contact the wards using the direct lines at the end of this message for an update once daily. As with the Next of Kin helpline, updates will only be given to one family member for those patients who are unable to communicate for themselves. Friends and family are encouraged to keep in touch with patients, using their own mobile phones where this is possible.
We ask that calls are made between 1pm and 4pm each day. Due to the busy environment in the wards, calls may not be answered outside of these times.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during these challenging times.

To families of all our patients, we wanted to give a reminder that sadly, at both Bedford and the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, we are still unable to allow any visitors on site, unless there are exceptional circumstances, for example in maternity , NICU or children’s departments, or for those patients who are receiving palliative treatment at the end of their lives, on a case-by-case basis.
