Car park changes at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital

Date: 12/10/2020 | Category: Redevelopment

Changes to the on-site car parks at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (L&D) site will be implemented from Wednesday 14 October 2020, to allow progression of the Trust’s redevelopment scheme.

St Mary’s car park, located off of Dunstable Road, will be used for disabled parking, as well as SSSU and maternity drop-off only.

Parking for patients and visitors will now be allocated off Calnwood Road, and at end of December, additional parking in a new four level car park on Lewsey Road will be opened. The new car park will also provide bicycle parking for patients, visitors and staff.

However, the overall numbers of car spaces are limited so the Trust is asking patients and visitors not to bring their car if they can avoid it, and to use alternative transport arrangements.

With restrictions still in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 and limitations on visitors to the site, we hope the impact of these changes will be minimal.

David Carter, Chief Executive at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted our redevelopment plans are progressing at pace, and although we continue to experience disruption, this will provide many long-term benefits including a new five-storey acute services block, travel hub and energy centre on the L&D site.

“We’d like to remind patients and visitors to help us, by avoiding driving to the hospital where possible.

“I’d like to thank our staff, patients and visitors for their understanding during this time.”
