Oral and Maxillo Facial

K Karavidas

Mr Karavidas, Consultant Maxillofacial/Head and Neck Surgeon, MD, DDS, PhD, FEB (OMFS)

I am a Consultant Maxillofacial/Head and Neck Oral Surgeon at The Luton & Dunstable University Hospital since 2012 and a core member of the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team. I perform facial reconstructive surgery for cancer patients and I am an expert in minimally invasive treatment of obstructive salivary gland disease.

I specialise in head and neck cancer, facial reconstruction and rehabilitation with microsurgery and free tissue transfer, skin cancer, sialendoscopy and minimal intraoral surgery for obstructive salivary gland disease (stones and strictures), salivary gland surgery, paediatric oral surgery and tongue ties.

I perform regular sialendoscopies, utilising all forms of minimal treatment for the obstructive disease of the salivary glands including laser intraluminal fragmentation of stones, basked retrieval of stones, balloon sialoplasties and the intraoral ductal stretching technique for the deeply seated stones in the hilum of the submandibular gland.

I have performed a high volume of free tissue transfer for reconstruction of the facial defects with a variety of flaps. Nowadays reconstruction is patient specific and I often include virtual surgical planning in the surgical treatment of my patients.
