NHS 75th Birthday

On 5th July 2023 the NHS celebrates its 75th Birthday. Treating over 1.3 million people every day, it is a source of pride, gratitude and love for so many – and cares for us no matter who we are, or where we are from.

Altruistic values have always been at the heart of the NHS. And throughout history, NHS charities have been right alongside, providing extra support that helps staff, services, and patients. From raising money for new buildings and facilities, to funding innovative technology and life-changing research, and most recently helping the NHS through the Covid-19 pandemic, the legacy of charitable giving to the NHS spans decades, and has shaped the healthcare we all receive today.

So as we celebrate this milestone birthday and everything that makes our NHS great, celebrate alongside us by fundraising for us.

Why should you get involved?

This is an excellent opportunity for communities to come together and pay tribute to the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly every day to care for us in our times of need. 75 years is a significant amount of time to have our beloved NHS and this is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you for our everyday services that run regardless of what is happening.

Our staff are here 24/7 looking after our family and friends so we at the charity are truly grateful for everything they do.

How can you get involved?

There are lots of different ways to get involved.

The NHS’s 75th birthday will take place in July 2023 and people across the country are being asked to join the NHS 1000 mile challenge to mark the occasion. Those taking part are asked to walk, run, swim or cycle (or a combination) the distance of 1,000 miles in the year. That’s an average of 2.74 miles per day.

Participants are encouraged to keep a record of their weekly miles and are invited to share their progress on Sunday nights at 7.30pm using the hashtag #NHS1000miles. As well as being a great way to mark the birthday, physical activity is good for your body and mind. And it’s completely free to take part in NHS1000miles!

Why not get sponsored to complete your 1,000 miles and raise money for Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Charity?

You can support one of our exciting appeals to make a difference to staff, patients and visitors. Check out each of the appeals on our main page.

If this does not appeal, you could host:

  • A teddy bear’s picnic
  • Afternoon tea
  • Staff room tea party
  • Wear blue and drink a brew
  • Garden party
  • Guess how many tea bags are in the jar
  • Name the bear

And if none of the above is quite your cup of tea, why not dream up your own creative idea? We’d love to see what you get up to, so don’t forget to post your activities on socials using the hashtags #NHS75
