Work Experience

Work experience is a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into different clinical and non-clinical areas of the hospital sites. Placement opportunities are only offered to students who are or will be 16 by time of placement.Sabine and Mhairi in front of the volunteering banner

This is fantastic opportunity for them to not only actively learn about an area they may wish to go into but also make their applications for universities or colleges stand out.

Some feedback from some of our recent placements includes:

“Thank you so much for organizing my placement week. I was able to both learn and see so many new things and confirm that medicine is something I want to pursue. Thank you for your help and support”.

“This placement has made me more certain that medicine is the career pathway for me. A great structured work placement which has been very insightful”.

“Before I would not have considered oncology, but after this placement, I will consider going down the path of oncology”.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. It has been insightful and exciting and really gave me a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a Doctor in the NHS. It has confirmed and encourages me to pursue my passion”

Work experience is incredibly popular and as a result has an extensive waiting list. While we try to support as many placements as possible, sometimes we are unable to accommodate a placement. We require a minimum of 6 weeks before the placement date, to go through the full application process and plan your placement. Unfortunately, fewer than 6 weeks does not allow enough time to process all the necessary checks and clearances needed.
