Ambulatory Care Centre is a day unit that is open Monday to Friday, 9.00 – 21.00 and 09.00 – 17.00 at weekends and bank holidays.
The unit was structured in April 2013 with a vision to avoid hospital admissions and to facilitate early discharges. We provide care in a different way that allows patients to be discharged home and return for treatment and further diagnostic tests and reviews.
Although Ambulatory Care Centre is not a normal ward setting, it provides comfortable chairs for patients, examination rooms, good facilities including refreshments, toilet facilities on site, magazines and television access for the patients whilst waiting to be seen by the medical team.

We have no restricted visiting times but allow only one to two relatives to attend during the patients consultantions.
To families of all our patients, we wanted to give a reminder that sadly, at both Bedford and the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, we are still unable to allow any visitors on site, unless there are exceptional circumstances, for example in maternity or children’s departments, or for those patients who are receiving palliative treatment at the end of their lives, on a case-by-case basis.
At both our hospitals changes are being made to support services, and we would now ask that you contact the wards using the direct lines found here for Bedford and here for Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.
