Leadership and Management

There are a range of Leadership and Management training sessions available in-house and online via ESR.

The Trust has committed significant funding into the development of the education and training offer. Some courses may have restrictions, including which staff groups can attend and that a learning contract must be signed by you and your manager before you can book onto the course.

Course content

The team development burst is designed in order for you to consider all things team. The 90 minute session focuses on the hard dynamics of teams and also the vital inter personal relationships that make them tick.

Target audience

Course content

Develop skills in managing yourself, your job and managing others.

Managing yourself – participants will have identified

  • Three personal development needs
  • Their team role
  • The key elements of time management
  • Become more confident in seeking development opportunities

Managing others – participants will be able to

  • Identify effective communication techniques to successfully manage people at work
  • Use appropriate behaviours to manage difficult working relationships
  • Reflect on how individual managing styles affect working relationships

Managing the job/organisation – participants will be able to

  • Identify own objectives
  • Identify the use of power and influence
  • Discuss negotiation and conflict at work in order to develop future strategy
  • Reflect on the 3 days in order to develop a plan for improving job performance

Target audience

This course is targeted at team supervisors and managers.

Course delivery

This course will be delivered virtually over 3 days. You must attend all 3 days.

Pre-course requirements

You must book with CPD and be 100% compliant with statutory mandatory training. You must also have study leave approved and protected.

Course content

Upon completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Overcome the ‘psychological’ and ‘practical’ barriers that prevent delegation.
  • Select the most appropriate people to delegate to, based on their capabilities and commitment levels.
  • Communicate persuasively and set clear objectives to reduce misunderstandings.
  • Establish suitable tracking guidelines and communication/support channels.
  • Deliver constructive feedback and motivational praise, and address skills gaps.

Target audience

People of all experience levels and seniority who need to delegate tasks and projects to others. The course is suitable for office and remote-working scenarios.
