HR Fundamentals

These courses will support you with the latest Trust policies and procedures, and provide you with practical skills to support you in your role.

HR Fundamental sessions are designed to help all staff understand HR policies and procedures. 

Since the Trust merger in 2020, the vast majority of the policies have been updated. These interactive sessions have been designed to ensure you are up-to-date with all the latest changes and support you in your role. Course training outlines, dates, times and venues are listed below.

Employees of Bedfordshire Hospitals are able to attend training on any site. 

Course content

The course will cover topics such as:

  • Budgetary Control
  • What does a budget statement look like? What does it tell you? How to understand it
  • Managing a budget – the role of a budget manager
  • Wider financial picture of the Trust
  • Principles of budget management
  • Types of funding
  • Revenue vs Capital
  • Business cases – how to prepare, the format, the information needed and the approval process.

This course will be delivered face to face in a classroom.

Target audience

This is targeted at anyone who has budgetary responsibility, for example ward
managers, service managers and general managers.

Course content

The Investigation Skills course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to perform a fact-finding or full investigation into disciplinary issues and grievances. You will gain an understanding of the process to be followed to enable you to confidently manage an effective and thorough investigation.

Target audience

New and existing managers at Band 6/7 and above who may be asked to
act in the capacity of an investigating officer. It may also be of interest to
Senior Managers who might commission investigations or who may participate
on panels.

The Performance Management course will provide you with an overview of the application of the policy within your team. You will gain an understanding of how to set and monitor SMARTER objectives, develop action plans and recognise when it may be necessary to transition from the informal to the formal stages of the process.
