Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)

We support patient and public involvement in research. Sharing your knowledge and experience can make a real difference.

Taking Part in Research

You may be contacted or approached to be offered the chance to take part in a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) study. If you are invited, one of the staff looking after you will review your health records to see whether you are eligible to take part and ask you if you are interested or send you a letter. You are free to choose whether or not to take part and your normal care will not be affected if you decline.

Opting out from Research

Information about your health and care helps us to improve your individual care, speed up diagnosis, plan your local services and research new treatments. In May 2018, the strict rules about how this data can and cannot be used were strengthened. The NHS is committed to keeping patient information safe and always being clear about how it is used. You can choose whether your confidential patient information is used for research and planning.
