Relatives Room and Chapel of Rest

With the expansion of the whole Emergency Department, the Emergency Department Team are fundraising to refurbish the Relatives Room and the Chapel of Rest.

These rooms are a key part of the patient and family journey through our Emergency Department and are used for several different reasons.

As a place to sit and mourn a loved one who has just passed

This Emergency Department is a very loud and busy place, so to have somewhere quiet and peaceful to go and reflect is so important.

As a place to have a difficult conversation

There are very few areas where there is privacy for difficult conversations to happen. Some news is very difficult to hear and for staff to be able to deliver that news in a peaceful and private space is very important, both to the member of staff and the family members.

As a chapel of rest

A serene, private space to say your last goodbye to your loved one.

To bring them in line with the rest of the Emergency Department’s new look, we would like to redecorate the rooms in calming serene colours, replace the furniture to create a home from home feel, add in a coffee table with facilities to make a hot drink and phone charging facilities to support the many phone calls you may need to make. This will make the chapel of rest feel calm, serene and private to allow the time required to say goodbye.

The team are looking to raise £6000 to make this refurbishment happen.
