Paintings in hospitals
The next initiative will involve collaborating with Paintings in Hospitals to bring original works of art to the L&D.
Paintings in Hospitals is a UK based charity committed to bringing world-class art to everybody with the provision of artwork loans and activities to health and social care settings. Artwork will be loaned from them to brighten the hospitals’ walls.
From 30 May – 10 June, staff will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite paintings, with the most popular choices being displayed across the L&D.
Come and see the shortlist of paintings outside the Chiltern Restaurant and register your vote.
Jubilee creative workshops!
As the Jubilee weekend fast approaches, take heART are planning engagement activities for all staff to get involved with, themed around ‘Human Touch’ and facilitated by Anne-Marie Abbate.
Activities are being organised to take place across both Bedford Hospital and the L&D, where staff will be encouraged to pop along and get crafty with some interactive and creative respite.
Anne-Marie will also be collaborating with local digital photographer Shaun Armstrong to produce large scale vinyl wall installations, again inspired by the theme of “Human Touch.” These will be installed on both hospital sites.
Workshop times and venues (just turn up – no prior registration required):
30 May – 8am-2pm, Large Lecture Hall
31 May – 2pm-8pm, Cauldwell Centre
Luton and Dunstable Hospital:
6 June – 2pm-8pm, COMET Lecture Theatre
7 June – 8pm-2pm, Breast Screening Unit Seminar Room, Lewsey Road, LU4 0EY
This project is funded by Arts Council England, with the grants distributed by the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation.
Working with local schools
Two local schools are working with local artist Katie Allen to generate work relating to the wellbeing themes of the Jubilee project. This will generate large printed posters which will be displayed across both hospital sites.
Fostering links within the local community
In Bedford Hospital there is currently a fantastic display of photographs near the care of the elderly wards, depicting historical industries from in and around Bedford throughout the years to both educate and inspire.
There is potential to do the same at the L&D, and take heART are currently working with Bedfordshire Archives and Luton Museums to choose suitable images to divulge more of Luton’s fascinating, underrepresented histories of Luton including the celebrated football club, its history of millinery, the Vauxhall car plant and of course, the airport.
